ABOUT TEMPLE BETH OR

We are truly warm, welcoming egalitarian Jewish congregation devoted to Jewish learning and Jewish values. Our services are filled with music and ruach (passion). We have an amazing group of musicians who play for our services. We identify with being Just Jewish.
Our prayerbook is the Reform Mishkan Tefillah and typically have around 40 people at our Shabbat Services and dairy potluck on the first Friday evening of the month. We also meet for Chagim (holidays) and weekly study for Talmud and monthly study for our j101 class.
Our chevre (group) is outgoing and friendly. We are also open to suggestions, welcome your support and encourage you to participate, or even lead. Spiritual engagement is a core value.
Our goal is to inspire individual and community growth. To achieve this, we engage G-d through Limud (learning), Tefilah (prayer), Tzedek (social justice), and participating in Kehillah HaKadosh (holy community). Our name, which means House of Light, presents our focus - which is to be a light.
We do not aspire to just to learn about G-d - it's to experience G-d through Jewish practice and text study. Our mission is to inspire Jewish practice among participants who are Jewish or those considering becoming a Jew by Choice. We recognize diverse personal philosophies, practices and needs while working towards the growth of our Jewish community.
We invite you to join us. Come learn about us. Let us know if you would like to be included on our monthly email or go to our Home Page were you can sign up.
Our History: Temple Beth Or was incorporated in June 2009 by a small group who held a vision to create a new, vibrant Jewish congregation in Reno. Prior to TBOR's birth, a group called Ma'ayanot (Wellsprings) met for healing services for nearly two years at both Temple Emanu-El or Temple Sinai.
Beginning in 2009, our birthing process was swift and encouraging. In our first and second annual High Holiday services, we met at University of Nevada, Reno. For our third annual High Holidays, we'll meet at our "new space" at Paradise Park. We continue our partnership with Nevada Hillel and the Jewish Community of Elko County and AEPi Fraternity.
